As the snow begins to fly and baseball moves indoors for the next four months, the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff has reevaluated Pennsylvania's Class of 2016 rankings. Over the past two days we have released the top prospects in the class that are situated in the top 10 spots in the current update. To view those articles see below:
Top Five Next Five
While this class lacks the depth that the Class of 2015 exhibits (115 Division 1 recruits and counting), it is top heavy with talented prospects. To date 17 of the top 21 ranked prospects have made Division 1 commitments, with Virginia landing three of the top seven. Pittsburgh has also done well securing verbals from three of the top 21 ranked prospects on the list.
No change at the top
Valley View RHP Max Kranick, a Virginia commit, remains securely entrenched as the top ranked prospect in this class. The right hander's performances on the big stage situate him atop our rankings heading into his junior season. He struck out all six hitters he faced in an outing for the Yankees at the 2014 Area Code Games in which his fastball topped at 91-mph. Later that month, the Virginia recruit came out of the bullpen for Marucci Elite at the Metropolitan Baseball Classic and did not disappoint. Standing at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, he pitched with a quick, abbreviated action from a high three-quarter slot, filling up the zone (68 percent strikes) and punching out six in three innings. His fastball touched 90-mph, while sitting 87-89 with occasional arm-side run, and had life up in the zone. He also effectively mixed in a curveball at 76-77.
