399. That's how many days separated the beginning and end of Brendan McKay's remarkable 72.1 inning scoreless streak for Blackhawk High School. Most high school starting pitchers who are used regularly don't go 399 hours (a little over 16.5 days) without giving up a run, but McKay managed to go more than a full calendar year. The National Federation of State High School Associations has recognized McKay's streak as tied for second longest all-time nationally, just 7.2 innings shy of the record.

To make his push for the top mark, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound southpaw utilized an upper-80s fastball that occasionally touched 91-mph, a mid-80s cutter, and a power breaking ball at 76-78. A big hat-tip goes to his teammates as well, who enabled the streak to continue by playing quality defense behind him.

During McKay's career, he and his Cougar teammates won the WPIAL AAA championship and advanced to the PIAA semifinals in 2012, while finishing as the WPIAL runner-up and PIAA quarterfinalist in 2014. Despite being drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 34th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft, McKay has enrolled at the University of Louisville and will pitch his freshman season this spring.
