Super 60 Showcase 2013: A Look Back

The 12th Annual PBR Super 60 Pro Showcase will take place tomorrow at the Max-McCook Athletic & Exposition Center’s state of-the-art 125,000 square-foot open turf facility. The address is 4750 S. Vernon Ave., McCook, IL 60525, located in the southwest suburb of Chicago. Directions are available at www.max-mccook.com.

This prestigious, invitation-only event features only the top players in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas, and West Virginia. Over the last 11 years, the Super 60 has become the most heavily scouted preseason event for potential draft picks in the Midwest. The primary purpose of the Super 60 is to give professional area scouts and cross-checkers a head start to the high school season. The event is for Class of 2014 players and select 2015 prospects.

Last year, 76 professional scouts of all levels were in attendance. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 135 players have been selected in the MLB Draft. Last year saw 16 of the 26 pitchers touch 90-mph or better, while 16 of the 36 position players ran sub-7 60s.

2013 Super 60: a look back at Pennsylvania participants

Last year's event was the first time Pennsylvania was represented with prospects participating in the Super 60. Following we take a look at the results of the PA prospects and where they are now.

Jextin Pugh, Bishop Gulifoyle HS (Binghamton University)

Pugh had a solid showing as a two-way prospect showcasing an 88 mph arm across the infield, and a 94 mph bat exit velocity from the left side of the plate. Pugh also sat 88-90 off the mound. He has moved on to Binghamton University where the 6-foot-2,   230-pound prospect is listed as a 1B/RHP going into his freshman season.

Shane Dressler, Red Land HS (Virginia Commonwealth University)

Dressler showcased his power stroke from the left side of the plate with a 93 mph bat exit velocity. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound 1B ran a respectable 7.34 60-yard dash and showed agility defensively around the the 1B bag. Dressler is now at Virginia Commonwealth University fighting for time in the infield for the Rams.

Shaun Corso, Hempfield HS (West Virginia University)

Corso showed well, but lacked his normal arm strength at last year's event. It became apparent early in the high school season that he was not at full strength when the middle infielder underwent surgery on his throwing arm and missed the remainder of his high school season. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect still impressed with an all-around good day. He ran a 7.21 60, while showing athletic hands and feet in the field. His throws were on-line and he played through the ball well. Corso also impressed with a rhythmic swing and the potential for power with an 88 mph bat exit velocity. He is now at West Virginia University fighting for time at 3B.
