A.J. Grezeszak is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound SS/RHP that was one of the most impressive infielders at the Eastern PA Open ID Showcase in January. His solid showing at the event moved Grezeszak to No. 32 in the PA Class of 2015 rankings. His performance on opening day of the 2013 season gives the appearance that he plans to continue his climb up the rankings.
Grezeszak's La Salle Explorers finished the 2012 season as the No. 1 ranked team in the PBR team rankings and the PIAA Class AAAA Champions. The Explorers began 2013 perched atop the state rankings once again and topped The Hill School 7-4 on March 23 to get the season started. Grezeszak hit two home runs in the game to help the Explorers to a come from behind victory.
The talented infielder flashed soft hands, athletic actions and good range during his defensive workout in January. He also showcased good carry on throws of 81 mph across the infield. Grezeszak had a solid round of batting practice displaying the ability to be a consistent line drive hitter who will hit for average. He had an impressive showing on the mound commanding three pitches for strikes. Throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot, Grezeszak's fastball topped at 81 mph with some arm side run. He also showed an 11/5 breaking curveball and a 69 mph changeup that he threw at fastball arm speed with some arm side run.
Playing for the No. 1 team in the state rankings will provide Grezeszak with plenty of opportunities to be seen on a big stage. The fact that he is surrounded by a host of other highly regarded prospects will only add to the number of scouts who should see him perform throughout the course of his sophomore season. If game one of the new season is any indication of the type of season that lies ahead, Grezeszak will see his stock skyrocket by season's end.
