Nathan Ocker came into the Preseason All-State Showcase as a pitcher with significant ability. He left the event having solidified his spot among the elite right-handers in the Pennsylvania Class of 2015. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound sophomore had a very solid freshman campaign finishing 2012 as a Mid-Penn Conference Honorable Mention selection. He turned his attention to the gridiron in the fall and worked his way into the starting QB role for Middletown HS for the last eight games of the 2012 season and will likely be the starter at that position for the next two seasons.
Ocker is a RHP/SS that showed potential as a two-way player with athletic actions and throws of 82 mph across the diamond. The sophomore showcased quick hands and a short swing path with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. He consistently squared the baseball during his round of batting practice. With continued development of his swing mechanics and physical maturation, Ocker could garner interest as a two-way player at the next level.
Ocker sat 84-85 with an over the top throwing motion with command of four pitches during his bullpen session. His 75 mph knuckle/curveball has good late break and he also showcased the makings of a quality cutter at 77 mph. Ocker's 76 mph changeup lacks any significant movement and will need to be developed. His lower half works well in unison with a very quick arm action. Ocker has bit of a short-arm action to his delivery that if adjusted could lead to even greater velocity. His athleticism, command of his entire arsenal of pitches and repeatable delivery make Ocker a definite high follow in this class moving forward.
