The Metropolitan Baseball Classic had quadruple-headers at two sites Saturday—Citi Field and Hofstra—and Prep Baseball Report's Jacob Gill was on location at Citi Field taking in the action. Below are some highlights, split up by players inside and outside PBR's current coverage area.
PBR Coverage Area
+ The Northeast Mets Scout team featured the most consistent velocity on the mound, with six pitchers touching 88 mph or better. Senior LHP Brendon Little (Conestoga HS, PA) worked 87-89 and touched 90 during his two innings. A sharp curveball is typically the North Carolina recruit's go-to secondary offering but, he seemed to favor a changeup on Saturday that had sink and fade action even when he slowed his body to throw it. Little (listed at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds) lands on a stiff front leg and gets downhill well from the wind-up. He had some trouble getting over his front side in the stretch and his command suffered a bit as a result.
+ RHP Chad Luensmann (Bellwood-Antis HS, PA) flashed an 86-89 fastball with serious sink out of a three-quarter slot that he used to get a number of swings-and-misses and ground balls. The Nebraska recruit incorporates a high leg kick and has some funk in his delivery. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder's slider lacked depth on this day, while his changeup had sink when down, but floated when elevated.
