Seneca Valley Looks to Repeat

Seneca Valley baseball is looking to win a third straight WPIAL AAAA championship and with eight starters returning that dream could become a reality.
The Raiders finished were WPIAL AAAA Section 1 Champions in 2012 with a record of 19-5 (10-2 in section play). Gone are the top two pitchers from that team Matt Smith (Georgetown) and Zach DeTillio (IUP) as well as 1B Austin Bream (Liberty). This year's senior heavy roster will also see a number of players heading off to play in college. RHP Zach Spangler (Kent State), 2B Sam Fragale (Virginia Tech), 3B Carson Kessler (Slippery Rock), C Brad Gresock (St. Bonaventure) and RHP Jason Martin (IUP) have already signed to continue their playing careers.
The 2014 Class will also make some noise for the Raiders including SS Connor Coward, C Gianpaul Gonzalez, RHP/OF Matt Rafferty and OF Jake Laskey. All four are currently found in the Pennsylvania Class of 2014 rankings.
With the talent heavy senior class underclassmen will have a difficult time making an impact this year but SS/RHP Corbin Kessler is a name to watch for in years to come. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound freshman has a wealth of talent and should make an impact on the Raider program in the near future.
Seneca Valley begins the 2013 campaign among the teams to watch in the PBR Pennsylvania Preseason Poll, just outside the Top 25. Provided that the pitching staff can produce at a level anywhere near the 2012 staff look for the Raiders to move up the state rankings in quick order.
