Notes from around the FSL
After missing most of last season due to injury, '14 RHP/OF Connor Biddle (all-FSL as a sophomore) returns to Germantown Friends (which knocked off Inter-Ac foe Penn Charter in the PAISAA 1st round), where he will join Clauson-Wolf and '14 RHP/3B Matt Reed for coach Tim Gunn.
Undefeated league champ Friends' Central returns a significant numbers of contributors including high-academic college-bounds in Rubin and OF/RHP Hayden Gruber (Tufts).
Starting six underclassmen at various times throughout last season, coach Bryan Bendowski hopes that a year of experience will help '16 IF Nick Wojtelwicz, '16 OF/RHP Phil Johnson, and 6-foot-4 '16 1B/RHP Peter Sobelman as they team with '14 OF/C Adam Schoenberg and '14 RHP/IF Jordan Spector for Shipley School.
Abington Friends, with Hyland and '15 1B/RHP Matt Cozen leading the way, and Academy of the New Church, with '16s Charlie Coyle and Austin Hibbs returning as starters from their freshman year, hope to climb the standings and earn FSL tournament berths.
Notes from other independent schools
'15s Deji Andrew and Michael de la Rosa hope to join '14 Trustin Riley in the outfield, for PAISAA semifinalist Mercersburg Academy, which had seniors in the first five line-up spots last spring. 6-foot-7 '14 RHP Michael Adams (Mount St Mary's) returns to lead the pitching staff.
The Hill School has a couple of big-frame RHPs looking to rack up innings in 6-foot-3 '15 Bryan Delp and 6-foot-2 '16 Jack Hogan.
Unlike the other independent schools mentioned here, Notre Dame (East Stroudsburg) competes in the PIAA (District XI), although it does not participate in a conference during the regular-season. Coach Kevin Hezel will lean on '14 RHP/1B Bryne Mumbauer and '14 3B Joseph Grober to lead the Spartans.
