The Pac-10 Conference is very competitive and turns out quality college prospects on a yearly basis. Add Owen J. Roberts HS RHP Stephen Muscovitch to that list following this winter. He got his feet wet in 2012 going 2-3 with a 5.83 ERA in 30 innings of work while struggling at times with his command. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound junior looks primed to improve on his numbers in 2013.
Muscovitch shined at the recent Preseason All-State Showcase. He sat 84-85 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with very good late life to his fastball. He also commanded his 78 mph changeup with arm side run that he throws at near fastball arm speed. Muscovitch was under control, throwing in rhythm and pounding the strike zone.
If Muscovitch can take his winter bullpen sessions to the mound with him this spring and continue to command the strike zone he stands to turn many heads with his results. His frame suggests more growth and additional velocity are on the way making him a very interesting prospect in the Class of 2014.
