Q&A With Millersville Commit Stephen Muscovitch

Stephen MuscovitchFinding the right fit is always a priority when a prospect begins the recruiting process. RHP Stephen Muscovitch (Owen J. Roberts HS) appears to have done just that. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound righty announced his commitment to Millersville University yesterday. The Marauders have become a pipeline for similarly sized pitching prospects. Millersville had seven pitchers on its roster last season that stood 6-foot-4 or better, with RHP Cody Stoneback being the tallest at 6-foot-7. All seven return to the roster this season.

Muscovitch, ranked No. 50 in the PA Class of 2014, sits 84-85 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose arm with late life to his fastball. Muscovitch has good rhythm to his delivery and should see substantial velocity increases as he adds to his athletic frame.

Muscovitch discussed his decision to attend Millersville and the recruiting process shortly following his announcement.

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?

Muscovitch: I have decided to attend Millersville University. Millersville is a great academic institution with a great business program that fits me well. The first time I stepped on the campus I could see myself going there and it felt like the perfect fit for me.  The baseball program is absolutely fantastic and Coach Shehan and his staff were a huge factor into my decision.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

Muscovitch: I was also strongly considering Kutztown University, West Chester University, and Shippensburg University. The PSAC has established itself as an unbelievable baseball conference and that’s where I wanted to play.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Muscovitch: No, distance was not really a factor at all.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Muscovitch: I believe Coach Shehan or Coach Neiman saw me at a showcase in the winter of my junior year. I visited about 3 times and really grew a relationship with Coach Shehan. He’s a great guy who has established a program that I cannot wait to be a part of.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Muscovitch: Coach Shehan expects me to compete for some innings my freshman year, as they are losing lots of innings this year.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?

Muscovitch: I think my biggest strength as a player is my competiveness and my character. I’m extremely competitive on the mound and I will do whatever it takes to help put my team in a position to win the game.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Muscovitch: I play for Norchester Senior Legion Bulldogs in the Berks County League and my most memorable experience is just becoming a tight group with all the guys and competing.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?

Muscovitch: My Current GPA is a 3.65

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Muscovitch: Individually, I would like to lead my team in wins and also be selected to the all-conference team. As a team our goal is to win a PAC-10 championship.

PBR: How did Prep Baseball Report aid you in gaining exposure as a potential college baseball recruit?

Muscovitch: Prep Baseball Report is a wonderful program that really helped me get exposed to a lot of schools. Their program is top of the line and I thank them for everything they've done for me.
