Kevin Mohollen, a 6-foot, 190-pound catcher from Strath Haven HS, has announced his commitment to the University of Delaware. The No. 18 ranked player in the Class of 2014 hit .424 with 18 RBI and 29 runs scored in 2013. Mohollen also put up some impressive power numbers, hitting seven doubles, two triples and four home runs. His performance at the PA Top Prospect Games in June solidified him as one of the top catching recruits in Pennsylvania in the Class of 2014.

Prep Baseball Report talked with Mohollen about his college choice and the recruiting process.

PBR: Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Mohollen: I decided to attend the University of Delaware. The reason I made this choice is because when I visited I loved everything about it. The campus, the facilities, the coaches and it was close to home.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Mohollen: I was also considering the University of Pennsylvania, Eastern Kentucky University, Columbia University, Villanova and Bucknell.

PBR: Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Mohollen: Distance from home was a very big part of my decision. I wanted to be close to my family.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Mohollen: The coaches first saw me during my school season. Throughout the season, they came to see me a few more times and our relationship developed very nicely. Everything progressed quickly and they were the exact kind of coaches that I am looking for.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Mohollen: I feel as though my strength is Catching. Behind the plate I think I am a solid player and can get the job done at the next level (college ball). I feel that it will help my team because you need someone behind the plate who can catch, throw, block, etc. or else there will be huge problems on the field. A runner that gets to first will be able to get to third very quickly with a catcher who cannot do all of those things.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Mohollen: I play for the Chester County Crawdads and my most memorable experience was when we won the Diamond Nation Super 17 Tournament on a walk off hit in the 10th inning.

PBR: What is your current GPA?
Mohollen: My current GPA is 3.60 non-weighted.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for your team going into your senior season?
Mohollen: My individual goals are to hit above .450 and throw out more than 60% of runners who try to steal. For my team I would like to make the playoffs and look to win a District Championship.

PBR: How did Prep Baseball Report aid you in gaining exposure as a potential college baseball recruit?
Mohollen: Prep Baseball Report's Top Prospect Games at Bucknell University helped me tremendously. It may have been the only showcase from Prep Baseball Report that I attended, but the exposure it gave me was great. A lot of the colleges I saw interest from were in attendance at that showcase.
