Preseason All-State Showcase Preview: Event Records in Jeopardy

The inaugural Preseason All-State Showcase took place on February 23, 2013. The one day event showcased 108 top prospects from PA, MD and OH. A total of 79 players from that year's event went on to announce college commitments with additional players still likely to announce their intentions in the coming year.

The annual event moved to two days in 2014 with 178 prospects participating over the span of two days. Of the 91 positional players to showcase on Day One last year, 31 have made college commitments to date. Day Two saw 87 pitchers and catchers take part with 36 announcing college commitments thus far.

All told, the Preseason All-State Showcase has been attended by 286 prospects in its two year existence with 146 players making college commitments thus far.

Current records

60-yard dash: NA (1st year for 60's)

James GaborThe record for the 60 will be established this year, the first year that it will be run. During the first two years of the event home-to-1B times were recorded with Trey Reese (Class of 2014, Pennn Hills HS) establishing the record at 3.91 in 2013 and Slippery Rock University recruit Frankie Jezioro setting a new standard in 2014 at 3.80,. Reese is now a freshman at Capital University.

Of the position players on this year's roster OF James Gabor is the odds on favorite to set the initial standard. Ranked No. 57 in the PA Class of 2017, Gabor recently ran a 6.63 at the Preseason College Prospects Showcase.

A pair of juniors, Seton-La Salle HS SS Nico Popa (6.72) and La Salle HS OF Langston Livingston (6.79), could also set the initial standard.


Outfield Arm: 87 mph - Kenny Bergmann - William Penn Charter, Class of 2016

Michael GeesamanIsaac NealThis record has the potential to fall after being set at the 2014 event. Of those on the roster likely to flirt with Bergmann's record are Isaac Neal (Parkland) and Michael Geesaman (Lower Dauphin) who have both posted 90 mph readings at previous events. Neal is ranked No. 76 in the PA Class of 2016 and Geesaman sits at No. 37 in the PA Class of 2017.


Catcher Pop Times: 1.88 - Drew Landis, Red Lion HS, Class of 2014

Jake JessellJake Jessell (Woodland Hills), a Pitt commit, is the odds on favorite to flirt with Landis' top time from 2013. Currently ranked No. 5 in PA and No. 61 in the PBR combined Class of 2016 rankings, Jessel has shown consistent sub-2.0 pop times with a 79 mph arm from the crouch.


Infield Arm: 87 mph - Matt Tarabek, Hempfield Area HS, Class of 2016

Nate FassnachtMatt TarabekTarabek, who committed to Fordham yesterday, set the mark for infielders at last year's event and returns this year with a chance to improve on his number. While Tarabek is likely to improve his number from last year it may not be enough to hold on to the top spot in the event record books as 2016 SS Nate Fassnacht (Ephrata HS) is likely to also make a big impression. Fassnacht has recorded multiple 90 mph plus readings at recent PBR events in the past six months. The pair of middle infielders are currently ranked No. 16 and No. 29 in the PA Class of 2016.


Pitchers (FB): 91 mph - RHP Adam Seibert, Episcopal Academy, Class of 2014

Casey VincentOf the records that were established in year one, the one that is least likely to fall in year three is the top fastball recorded by Seibert in 2013. The Hofstra University freshman sat 89-91, touching 91 mph on three occasions. RHP Casey Vincent (Eisenhower), No. 12 in the PA Class of 2016, sits in the upper 80s and is likely to show the top velocity of the pitchers set to throw this year.


Bat Exit Velocity: 97 mph -OF Nick Newman, Cardinal O'Hara HS, Class of 2015

Billy BrittinghamNewman set the standard for bat exits at last year's event topping the previous mark of 96 mph set by University of Buffalo freshman Mitchell Machi (North Allegheny HS, Class of 2014). Of those on this year's roster, Fassnacht (94 mph) and 2016 1B Billy Brittingham, Germantown Academy (92 mph) could flirt with the mark.
