Preseason All-State Showcase: Pitcher Analysis (Class of 2014)

A total of 44 pitchers toed the rubber on Day Two of the Preseason All-State Showcase. Continuing our evaluations of those that participated we will take a look at three pitchers from the Class of 2014.

Michael HunterMichael Hunter, RHP, Brandywine Heights HS (Marist recruit)
Hunter showed why he is a Marist recruit and ranked No. 39 in the PA Class of 2014. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound righty sat 86-87 out of a 3/4 arm slot with late life to his fastball. Hunter is all arms and legs coming at the hitter and he shows his numerals to the hitter making it very difficult to see the ball coming out of his hand. Hunter's changeup showed late sink at 73 mph and is thrown at near fastball arm speed. The one pitch that Hunter will need to continue to develop is his curveball. He throws the pitch with 11/5 break at 68 mph.

Zach NewmyerZach Newmyer, RHP, Red Land HS (Unsigned Senior)
Newmyer is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty that has shown continual progress over the past two years. He sat 83-86 out of a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm, slinging motion. His fastball showed late life and arm side run. Newmyer has worked hard to develop his secondary pitches. The unsigned senior showed command of his 11/5 breaking 74 mph curveball and a feel for his 74 mph changeup. The changeup is thrown at fastball arm speed and had run and sink to it.

Jake PachecoJake Pacheco, RHP, Emmaus HS (Unsigned Senior)
Pacheco completed a well-rounded weekend showcasing his skills at three positions by tossing a solid bullpen session. The unsigned senior sat 80-83 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with more in the tank. Although he treats pitching as his third position, the righty showed athleticism and balance to his delivery that project additional velocity if he was to concentrate on being a pitcher only. Pacheco also commanded a slurvy, 11/5 breaking curveball at 65 mph and a 70 mph changeup that had some sink.
