Joey DeFloria (Hempfield Area HS) is a true two-sport prospect with the potential to play football and/or baseball in college. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound RB/WR scored 23 touchdowns in his final two seasons of high school football. In that time span he gained 1,815 yards on the ground (7.44 yards per carry) and caught 29 passes for 468 yards.
While DeFloria admits much of his interest from college coaches has been as a football player, he has the physical tools on a baseball diamond that could lead to his name being called in the MLB amateur draft next June. DeFloria hit .338 with two home runs, 24 runs, 19 RBI and 17 stolen bases as a junior in 2013. He has run a 6.40 60-yard dash and has a 90 mph arm from the outfield.
According to DeFloria there have not been a lot of colleges calling regarding baseball, most of his college interest has come from football recruiters. "I have heard from Penn State, Kent State and UCONN. I also got invited to a Texas Rangers workout in January. I guess they like me a lot."
DeFloria is ranked No. 30 in PA and No. 232 in the PBR combined rankings for the Class of 2014. He has been invited to participate and has expressed a desire to attend the PBR Super 60 Pro Showcase on February 2.
