BainHigh school baseball players develop at different rates and at different points in their teenage years. Based on his performance at the Preseason All-State Showcase it is safe to say that OF Cody Bain is beginning to hit his stride.

Bain has been ranked in the top 100 players in the Class of 2014 since its inception in June of 2012. Following a quality showing at a June event he was selected as a member of the inaugural Team Pennsylvania roster at the Midwest Future Games in August. Bain showcased a solid 81 mph arm during the event and showed the ability to cover a lot of ground in the outfield. His performance in February indicates that Bain is ready to have a breakout year and should garner significant interest as one of the top outfielders in his class.

Bain got his Preseason All-State event started by turning in one of the top home-to-first times of the day at 4.00. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter showcased an 84 mph bat exit velocity and good barrel whip to his swing during a strong round of batting practice. Bain showcased a short swing path and stayed inside the baseball well.

His performance in the outfield vaulted Bain to a new status among outfielders in his class. He showed athletic actions and the ability to play through the baseball on throws of 87 mph from the outfield. His arm strength and defensive actions were clearly the best of the day.

Bain will have an opportunity this year to help Blackhawk HS attempt to repeat as the WPIAL Class AAA Champion. The Cougars graduated a large percentage of their starting lineup and will rely on players such as Bain to step in to fill the rolls of those who led them to a very successful season in 2012.
