2013 was not the best season in the history of Pius X high school baseball. The Royals went 5-13 with a young squad that sported just two seniors. The 2014 outlook is much brighter as 17 members of last year's roster return.
OF/1B Alex Farina is one of those young players that gained valuable playing experience in 2013. The junior was a bright spot in a tough season for the Royals, hitting .421 with nine doubles and a triple as a sophomore. Farina scored 17 runs in 18 games out of the leadoff spot and had a .469 on base percentage.
Farina is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter that has a compact swing and an 86 mph bat exit velocity. He runs a 6.80 60-yard dash and has displayed an 84 mph arm from the outfield. The Hackettstown, NJ resident crosses the border daily to attend school at Pius X in Pennsylvania. Farina will be participating for Team New York/New Jersey in the inaugural PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle in July at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland.
