The initial Class of 2017 rankings have been released with a number of impressive prospects filling the top 10 spots. While none are currently committed it is conceivable that more than a few will announce a college choice in the coming months.
Fresh off an impressive performance at the PA Top Prospect Games on June 17 and 18, OF Joe Lancellotti (Archbishop Wood, top right) fills the top spot in the initial rankings. Lancellotti has solid 5-foot-10, 190-pound frame and is athletic in everything he does on the field. At the plate the right-handed hitter showed fluid rhythm to his swing and a 95 mph bat exit velocity. Lancellotti was named the MVP of the White Team. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBI. Lancellotti flashed his two-way abilities by moving to the mound for an inning on Day Two where he sat 86-88 out of a high 3/4 arm slot while topping at 89 mph. With a 7.01 60-yard dash and an 88 mph arm from the outfield, Lancellotti could play all three OF spots at the next level.
SS/RHP Matt Gorman (William Penn Charter, middle right), a member of the Team Pennsylvania roster for this summer's PBR Future Games checks in at No. 2. Gorman is a polished middle infielder that also sits in the mid-80s off the mound.
The No. 3 spot is filled by C/3B/RHP Shane Muntz (Malvern Prep, bottom right), a 6-foot-3, 240-pound prospect with a great deal of ability. Muntz sat 86-88 off the mound at the PA Top Prospect Games and flashed a 97 mph bat exit velocity from the tee.
While the initial list of ranked prospects is relatively small in number at 35, it will grow significantly in the coming months and years to a final total of 300 or more prospects. For now, these are the top prospects we have had an opportunity to see play in this class with more talent to be added in coming updates.
