Hollidaysburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 12-2 run-rule shortened game between AAA schools preparing for the playoffs.
Hollidaysburg hitters stayed patient drawing eight walks from four different Indiana pitchers. Brett Hileman got the Golden Tigers (13-5) on the board in the 1st inning with an RBI single to right. A fielder’s choice brought in another run before Thayne Russell lined a single to center for an RBI. Kaleb Springer culminated the inning with a sacrifice fly to left.
Hollidaysburg scored two more runs in the second, taking advantage of two walks and a hit by pitch. Consecutive sacrifice flies by Andy Crum and Reid Miller increased the lead to 6-0.
Indiana (14-4) came alive in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on three hits. Dan Clark’s fielder’s choice ground ball and Matt Griffith’s RBI groundout cut the deficit to 6-2.
Hollidaysburg then put the game away with a six-run inning in the bottom of the 5th. Three runs came in on wild pitches before Brian Urban lined a two-run single past a diving third baseman and Hileman added an RBI infield single.
Hileman, Russell, and Corey Sell each went 2-for-3 for Hollidaysburg. Crum got the win on the mound striking out seven.
Indiana will open the WPIAL playoffs playing Thomas Jefferson Monday at 4:30 at Gateway High School. Hollidaysburg has one more regular season game Monday vs. Punxsatawney.
