Four 1st round Class 2A and Class 3A games were hosted on the 1st day of action in the District 10 tournament on Tuesday at Slippery Rock University. Following is a recap of the action with winners advancing to the semifinal round on May 23.

Corry 10, Conneaut Area 2

The Beavers got a complete game two-hitter from senior LHP Nick Kapenko and scored all 10 runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings to win going away. Senior CF Bailey Patten led the Corry offense going 3-for-5, and a two-run home run from senior SS Brody Wood capped a five run 4th that pushed the lead to 8-0. The Beavers advance to Friday's semifinal round for a match-up with Grove City.

Franklin 4, Hickory 0

Zach Guth2015 LHP Zach Guth (right), an Indiana commit, came within an eyelash of tossing his 2nd no-hitter of the season. Guth allowed just a soft line-drive single to right field with two outs in the 7th inning while striking out 13. The future Hoosier also shined at the plate with three hits in four trips including a triple and two RBI. Senior 3B Ryan Madden also had two hits and two RBI to provide more than enough support for Guth. The Knights advance to Friday's semifinal round where they will face Mercyhurst Prep.

Saegertown 6, Titusville 3

Kyle WiseThe Panthers began defense of their D10 title from 2013, 2012 and 2011 by jumping on Titusville starter Tyler Ripper for three runs in the 1st inning. 2015 RHP Scott Sada worked five solid innings allowing three runs on four hits and Slippery Rock recruit Mitchell Wood came on for the two inning save. Sada and Wood both had a pair of hits for the Panthers while fellow Slippery Rock recruits Tyler Walters and Kyle Wise (right) each had run scoring doubles.

The Saegertown seniors are on a quest to win District 10 Class AA titles in each of their four years of high school. The next step in that quest comes Friday when the Panthers will play Northwestern in the semifinals.

Grove City 4, Warren 0

Matt GordonBinghamton University recruit Matt Gordon (right) took matters into his own hands limiting Warren to just four hits while allowing just one runner to advance to second base. The 6-foot-3 righty walked just one hitter and promptly picked him off. Grove City got on the board in the 1st inning when 2015 SS Jesse Hodge singled home 2015 OF Jordan Anderson who had doubled. Senior OF Jared Sample's 5th inning, two-run single was the big blow as the Eagles put the game away with three runs.

Grove City now advances to Friday's Class 3A semifinals to take on Corry.
