Junior LHP Shane Supanick threw his third consecutive complete game to lead North Star over Portage by 4-2 yesterday. Supanick gave up one earned run, walked three and struck out 11 in a five-hitter. North Star remains undefeated at 12-0, while Portage falls to 10-5.
Portage took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Brady Warner RBI single up the middle. The lead was short-lived as North Star answered with a three-run inning in the top of the 2nd. Junior Dalton Rice lined a single past a diving third baseman for the first run. Two batters later, Elijah Knupp roped a two-run single to center field.
North Star added an insurance run in the 6th inning when Supanick tripled to right-center field and came in on a throw that went out of play.
Supanick got in a groove and sat down eight consecutive Mustangs before Portage rallied with four hits but only one run in the 6th innings. The Mustangs used three consecutive infield singles and a Brandon Madigan sacrifice fly to score their run.
