Greensburg CC 8, Greensburg Salem 1
A pair of cross-town rivals hooked up for Military Appreciation day Sunday at Seton Hill University. The game originally scheduled to be played at Greensburg Salem earlier in the week was moved to Seton Hill University, located in Greensburg, to take advantage of the Griffins' artificial turf playing surface.
The two teams traded first inning runs as GCC '16 SS Tommy Pellis scored on a sacrifice fly by '14 CF Ed Kilkeary and GS '14 catcher Greg Neumann scored on a groundout by Virginia Tech recruit Max Ponzurick.
Greensburg Salem senior RHP Colton Hearn and Central Catholic junior RHP Cole Reese settled in and a pitcher's duel ensued until a pitching change in the top of the 4th inning. GCC erupted for four runs in the inning on four hits with a two-run double by '16 2B Sam Nowicki being the biggest blow.
Kilkeary led off the 5th inning with a triple to the right-center field gap and scored on a sacrifice fly by '16 catcher Zack Skatell to increase the lead to 6-1. The final score was set when the Centurions added two insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning.
Reese was the story of the day in addition to the GCC offense. The junior went six strong innings allowing just two hits while striking out four. He also erased two base runners by way of pickoff. The second occurred with the bases loaded and two outs in the 5th inning with Ponzurick standing at the plate.

news & notes:
-
GCC '16 3B Jake Nesser had an outstanding day defensively. The sophomore made a number of quality plays but none finer than a diving catch on a line drive to his left in the 4th inning.
- The Centurions are currently without the services of their top pitcher and one of their top hitters, RHP/SS Collin Liberatore. The sophomore, ranked No. 59 in the PA Class of 2015, is sidelined with a broken thumb suffered while sliding in the first game of the season in Myrtle Beach, SC.
