Lancaster Catholic (7-3) hosted Donegal (8-2) on Wednesday afternoon in a game that saw a pair of Crusader pitchers dominate the Donegal hitters for the 9-0 win.
Freshman Dillon Marsh got the start for Lancaster Catholic and showed why he is ranked No. 9 in the PBR Class of 2018 overall rankings. Marsh went 5.2 innings and was never in any real danger throughout the day. Donegal advanced a runner to third base one time but Marsh proceeded to strike out the next batter to eliminate the Indians best chance to score on the afternoon. Marsh finished the day allowing two hits while striking out seven.
The Crusaders got the scoring started in the second after sophomore Tyler Peters reached on an infield single for one of his three hits on the day. Mitch Eck followed with a hard hit single down the third base line and then Bryan Downey laid down a perfect bunt single to load the bases. Jordan Scott then got Lancaster Catholic on the board with a sac fly to center field.
Lancaster Catholic broke the game open in the fourth scoring four runs on the strength of RBI hits by Jared Kramp and Casey Regan. Peters put a cherry on top of his day in the 6th when he came to the plate with the bases loaded and proceeded to clear them with his second double.
Junior righty Bayley Jamanis threw the final 1.2 innings for the Crusaders striking out three allowing only one hit.
Offensively Lancaster Catholic was led by Peters (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) and Kramp (2-for-3, 2 RBI). The only player to record multiple hits for Donegal was Ryan Myers going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Sam Lazowski was the starting pitcher for the Indians and threw better than the score would indicate. He threw all six innings and struck out five but was unable to overcome defensive miscues and timely hitting by the Crusaders.
Donegal is back in action on Friday when they host Pequea Valley. Lancaster Catholic's next scheduled game is also against Pequea Valley on 4/23.
