Game Recap: Colonial League Semifinals

Northwestern Lehigh 5, Notre Dame-Green Pond 3

Those who arrived late to the 1st of two Colonial League semifnal games played at Parkland High School on Tuesday are probably kicking themselves. The first two innings took the better part of an hour to play, saw two lead changes and a total of seven runners crossed the plate. The final five innings flew by in thirty minutes with just one additional run.

Tyler SchreinerNDGP jumped out to an early lead when leadoff hitter Eric Santiago walked moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Dadio and a single by freshman Steven Luke. Northwestern Lehigh answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Jake Augustus led off with a single advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior Tyler Schreiner (right) and scored on an RBI ground out from Trevor Schreiner.

The Crusaders regained the lead in the top of the second when Nick Basenese doubled with one out and scored on an infield error with two outs.

The Tigers used a five hit barrage in the bottom of the 2nd to take a lead that they would not relinquish. A Jake Haas RBI double and a two-run triple from Tyler Schreiner were the big blows leading to a 5-2 lead.

Jake Augustus went to work from that point (CG, 6 H, 1 BB, 4 K) limiting the Crusaders to a 5th inning run to close out the 5-3 victory while facing just four batters over the minimum over the final five innings.

Northwestern Lehigh returns to Parkland High School tomorrow for a 7:00pm Colonial League title game opposite Bangor, a 10-0 winner over Southern Lehigh in the night's other semifinal.

Bangor 10, Southern Lehigh 0

Bangor made quick work of Southern Lehigh in the nightcap of the Colonial League semifinals while moving to 21-0 on the season. The Slaters scored in every inning but the first, got dominant pitching and ended the game by mercy rule with a two run 5th inning.

East Stroudburg University recruit Carson Freeman walked the first batter he faced and then retired the next nine batters he faced in order including four by strikeout. Landon Labar was nearly as good facing just one batter over the minimum in his two innings of work to complete the shutout. A one out single by Southern Lehigh senior Richie Hoffman broke up the no-hitter.

Mike Martino (2-4, 2B, R), Freeman (2-4, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI), Drew Kluska (2-3, 2B, R, 3 RBI), Cody Kuchar (2-3, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Anthony Schiavone (2-3, R, 2 RBI) fueled Bangor's 12 hit attack.

Bangor returns to Parkland High School tomorrow for a 7:00pm Colonial League title game opposite Northwestern Lehigh, a 5-3 winner in the night's first semifinal.
