PA Director of Scouting

The final Class of 2013 player rankings are scheduled to be released on May 20 with the remaining classes scheduled to be released as follows:

  • Class of 2014 (May 27)
  • Class of 2015 (June 3)
  • Class of 2016 (June 10)

In preparation for the release of the Top 250 players in this year's senior class, we will take a sneak peek at the top 10 prospects over the next two days.

Top 10 prospects (#6-#10)

YarnallNo. 6 - OF/1B, Nick Yarnall, Hempfield HS (Pitt)

Yarnall has played a good deal of 1B in high school, but the sub-7.0 runner is likely to be an outfielder at Pitt. The 6-foot, 195-pound left-handed hitter has raw power and is a run producer. Yarnall's high school teammate SS Shaun Corso (West Virginia) went down with an injury early this spring allowing pitchers to work more carefully to Yarnall, yet he still found a way to put up big numbers. He did the heavy lifting in the middle of the order for Hempfield with two triples, five home runs and 34 RBI while hitting .320. Yarnall has shown the versatility to be able to handle all three outfield positions as well as first base.

S60PughNo. 7 - 1B/RHP Jextin Pugh, Bishop Guilfoyle HS (Binghamton)

Pugh is a powerful left-handed stick at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds. He had a solid day at the 11th Annual Super 60 Showcase in February topping all infield arms at the event on throws of 88 mph across the diamond. Pugh showed his power potential at the plate and a bat exit velocity of 94 mph. During his bullpen session he sat 89-90 and showed a curveball that had tight 11/5 rotation at 75 mph. Pugh will get an opportunity to be a two-way player at Binghamton, with most of his work to likely be as a position player.

MorrisNo. 8 - OF Tyler Morris, Warwick HS (Liberty)

One of two additions to the top 10, Morris is a long-limbed athlete that has a solid 85 mph arm from the outfield. His long strides and good instincts allow him to cover plenty of outfield territory. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed hitter could easily add 15 to 20 pounds to his frame in the coming years. Morris has put up big numbers this year hitting .520 with 39 hits, six doubles, five triples and two home runs.

ABledayNo. 9 - LHP Adam Bleday, Titusville HS (Virginia)

Bleday is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound lefty that sits 85-87 with command of an 80 mph changeup and a 12/6 breaking curveball that sits 73-76. He has a solid lower half and sound, repeatable mechanics that allow him to command the strike zone. Bleday has demonstrated an advanced feel for pitching and the confidence to use all of his pitches at any count. Bleday had a memorable performance in 2012 when he worked nine innings to pick up an extra-inning win. Along the way he struck out 23 batters including striking out the final nine batters of the game. Bleday was named the 2011 Amateur Baseball Report national player of the year for his efforts playing with the Indiana Prospects baseball program.

RavelNo. 10 - RHP Andy Ravel, Wilson West Lawn HS (Kent State)

Ravel jumps six spots from No. 16 to find a spot in the final top 10. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-hander carried the load for the Wilson pitching staff while teammate Adam Bainbridge (Old Dominion) worked his way back into the rotation from injury. Ravel posted a 7-0 record with a 0.91 ERA this season. In eight starts he threw six complete games totaling 54 innings. Ravel has solid command of all of his pitches striking out 71 while walking just 12. Ravel sits 86-88 with his fastball and uses a biting 78 mph slider as his out pitch.
