By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting
With the start of the high school season less than a week away we will be previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.
district 10 Class AAA
Preseason Favorites
Cathedral Prep (18-2), Warren (9-6), Harbor Creek (17-4)
The title in 2014 is likely to come from a team located in the northern portion of the district in large part because of the pitching. Ted Desanti, Sam Riley, Carter Cross, Tanner Stanz, Collin Fantaskey, Isaac Mattson and Patrick Brennan give the top three teams in the north the ingredient needed for post season success, a 1-2 pitching combination that both give a team a fighting chance every night out. Add in that all three teams pack more than enough offensive punch and the D10 title could be a three horse race.
in the mix
Grove City (11-7)
Grove City will send ace Matt Gordon to the mound whenever he is on rest, but will need to develop additional pitching to compete with the teams from the north.
Preseason Player of the Year
Matt Gordon, Grove City HS (Class of 2014)
Gordon is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound RHP that is a Binghamton University recruit. He sits in the mid-80s with command of a 75 mph curveball and a 78 mph changeup. Gordon mixes his pitches well and has a heavy fastball that deadens a lot of bats. The left-handed hitter swings a powerful bat in the middle of the Eagles lineup but will stick to his duties on the mound at the next level.
