Central PA Notebook: (May 6 - May 12)

Playoff baseball will begin at the end of this week with District 6 1A and 2A first round games taking place on Thursday. Most teams will finish their regular season schedules on Monday before preparing for playoffs either at the end of this week or next Monday (May 20).

Game of the Week:  Bellwood-Antis 6, Tyrone 5


B-A’s Seth Hunter drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out single to left. Tyrone (6-9) led 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth before Bellwood-Antis (15-3) scored four runs to take a 5-3 lead going into the seventh. Anthony Politza, Tyrone’s right fielder, drove in two with a single in the 7th to tie it at five heading into the bottom of the seventh. Tristan Lingafelt and Brad Wirtner each had two hits and an RBI for Tyrone while Dan Beech had two hits for the Blue Devils and was also the winning pitcher, striking out five.

Top Pitching Performances

  • Conemaugh Valley’s Blake Furman threw five innings in a 12-2 win over Rockwood on Monday. The junior righty gave up an unearned run on three hits while striking out 11.

  • Cambria Heights’ Josh Serafin struck out ten and allowed four hits in a 10-0 win over Harmony on Monday.

  • Central’s Ethan Lewis threw a one-hitter in a 10-1 complete game victory over Forest Hills on Monday. Lewis struck out nine and walked three. The one-hit came in the 7th inning.
  • Devon WalkerDuBois’ Devon Walker went the distance in a 3-2 win over Hollidaysburg on Monday. The junior struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits against a deep and talented Hollidaysburg lineup.
  • Central’s Mike Mock threw a complete game shutout in an 8-0 win over Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday. Mock struck out eight and walked seven.
  • Cambria Heights’ Andrew Brawley threw a five-inning shutout in an 11-0 win over Penn Cambria on Tuesday. Brawley allowed three hits, struck out six and walked three.
  • North Star’s Brantley Rice threw six shutout innings in an 11-0 win over Ferndale on Tuesday. The Pitt-Johnstown recruit allowed two singles, three walks and struck out ten.
  • Conemaugh Valley’s Chris Horten got the complete game victory in his team’s 2-1 win over rival Conemaugh Township on Tuesday. Horten gave up two hits, walked four and struck out seven.
  • Portage’s Luke Dividock threw a complete game four-hitter in an 8-0 win over Blacklick Valley on Thursday. The freshman struck out nine and did not walk a batter.
  • Meyersdale’s Connor Christner went the distance with a three-hitter in an 8-1 win over Berlin on Thursday. Christner struck out ten and also had three hits himself.
  • DuBois’ Ricky Walker got the win in a rain-shortened five-inning 1-0 win over Altoona on Friday. Walker struck out three and only allowed two hits.
  • Philipsburg-Osceola’s Caleb Pepperday threw a complete game one-hitter in a 4-1 win over Altoona on Thursday. Pepperday struck out eight and walked two.
  • Everett’s Kyle Droz struck out 12 in a 7-3 win over Bellwood-Antis on Friday.  
  • Claysburg-Kimmel’s Trey Claar threw a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over Northern Bedford on Friday. Claar gave up eight hits but got out of many jams by striking out eight.

  • Tussey Mountain’s Dave Taylor went 5-for-6 with three home runs, five runs and seven RBI in a 19-11 win over Portage on Monday.
  • North Star’s Brantley Rice went 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBI in a 17-2 win over Windber on Monday.
  • North Star’s Derek Mullen went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBI in a 17-2 win over Windber on Monday.
  • Portage’s Evan Price went 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI in a 19-11 loss to Tussey Mountain on Monday. On Thursday the senior went 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles and an RBI.
  • Bishop McCort’s Luke Williams went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs and two RBI in an 11-8 victory over Penn Cambria on Monday.
  • North Star’s Dalton Rice went 3-for-4 with two runs, a triple and two RBI in a 17-2 win over Windber on Monday.
  • WeyandtClaysburg-Kimmel’s Devin Weyandt went 5-for-5 with three home runs, four runs and eight RBI to lead the Bulldogs over Glendale 19-7 on Monday.
  • Claysburg-Kimmel’s Trey Claar went 2-for-2 with four runs, a home run and two RBI in a 19-7 win over Glendale on Monday.
  • Central Cambria’s Dan Bowman went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and an RBI in a 7-3 loss to Bishop Guilfoyle on Tuesday.
  • Bellwood-Antis’ Casey Gray went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs and four RBI in a 12-2 win over Juniata Valley on Tuesday.
  • Bald Eagle’s Cole Long went 4-for-5 with a run and four RBI in a 13-4 win over Tyrone on Tuesday.
  • Bald Eagle’s Logan Reese went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI in a 13-4 win over Tyrone on Tuesday.
  • Conemaugh Township’s Dillion Boyer went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and a triple in a 7-3 win over Shade on Thursday.
  • Williamsburg’s Adam Wheland went 3-for-3 with two doubles in a 8-5 win over Glendale on Friday.
  • Juniata Valley’s Johnny Johnson went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI in a 4-0 win over Huntingdon on Wednesday.
  • Bishop Carroll’s Scott Lucas went 6-for-9 in a doubleheader sweep of Forest Hills on Wednesday. Lucas scored four runs and drove in five.
