Best Tools: Uncommitted 2017 Infielders

As we reach the midpoint of the fall season with the NCAA signing period less than two months away, we are highlighting a group of the top uncommitted prospects in the senior class this week.  We continue today with infielders.

Best Hitting Prospect: Pete Vaccaro, 2B/SS, Oley Valley

A member of Team PA at the 2015 PBR Future Games, Vaccaro has consistently shown an ability to handle advanced velocity and use the entire field with in-game gap power. The strong 5-foot-9, 185-pound left-handed hitter hits against his front side well and repeats a swing that has good rhythm in its load with explosive lower half weight transfer.


Best Power Prospect: Nick Hess, 1B, Cathedral Prep

This 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitter, who banged out 23 hits last spring with more than one-third of them going for extra bases, was one of the top three power threats on the Ramblers roster, along with current freshmen at Nebraska and Seton Hill.

Best Defensive Prospect: Mitch Eck, SS, Lancaster Catholic

5-foot-11, 170-pounder exhibits a solid across-the-board defensive skill set. He moves well laterally, has playable arm strength (82 mph across the diamond), a soft glove hand, and active feet from set-up through the throw. And while he would benefit from additional strength gains, his hands work in a balanced, repeatable swing.


Best Footspeed: Carson Gantz, 2B/SS, Northampton Area

This 5-foot-10, 155-pound left-handed hitter can really scoot, logging a 4.06 home-to-1B time, as well as a 4.25 on a turn. Inside-out stroke is geared to take advantage of his best asset.
