Backyard Brawl Goes to Loyalsock Township

The Backyard Brawl annually brings together four local high school baseball programs for a day of baseball at Historic Bowman Field, home of the Williamsport Crosscutters. The one day, four game tournament gives players an opportunity to take a break from league play and offers an opportunity to play in a professional venue for local bragging rights.

PBR was in attendance for the first two games of the day. Following is a look at highlights of those two games.

Game 1: South Williamsport 4, Montoursville 0

South Williamsport pitcher Billy Rummings and Montoursville pitcher Quinton Kuntz locked up in an old fashioned pitchers duel that resulted in a scoreless tie until Nick Mistretta's two-out single in the bottom of the 6th inning broke the ice and vaulted South Williamsport into the title game.

Rummings went the distance allowing just two hits while striking out 14. Her retired the side on strikes in three innings in his dominant performance.

Game 2: Loyalsock Township 9, Williamsport 2

Loyalsock Township, the defending Class 2A state champs, used a five run 4th inning and a strong outing from freshman LHP Andrew Malone, to move on to the title game. Junior RF Jimmy Webb (3-for-3, 2BB) and senior CF Nick Difrancesco (3-for-3, BB) led the Lancers' offense.

 

Game 3: montoursville 9, williamsport 8
