Ontario Scouting Director

Maybe the most loaded position for Ontario this past week, there were a surplus of athletic outfielders who could run down balls in the gaps, create solid contact and approaches at the plate, and just flat out play. Here is a look at the top outfield prospects from Ontario ...

uncommitted 2015 outfielders

Demi Orimoloye, OF, Ottawa Nepean Canadians, 2015

When talking about physical attributes, Demi Orimoloye usually sits atop the list. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound specimen is what scouts dream of when making a baseball player. A potential five tool player, Orimoloye can run, field, throw, hit for power, and like any young hitter, he is continuing to make strides with his hitting ability. Orimoloye has been a standout this past summer, doing all the things that have made him a potential top round pick next June. Orimoloye has the power to leave any ballpark, uses powerful long strides in the outfield and on the bases, plenty of arm strength with good carry through the bag and solid defensive actions. Orimoloye is a top follow for recruiters and scouts, should be on everyone’s radar.

Eric Senior, OF, Toronto Mets, 2015

Possibly the MVP of Tournament 12, Senior led the Black team at the plate as it seemed as if he was 2-3 every game. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound outfielder played an impressive right-field while incorporating his speed (6.8 sixty) to make plays in the alley. Senior was very aggressive at the plate, which led to hard contact to all fields. Senior laced a few balls in the gap for doubles and with another 20 pounds added to his frame, those doubles will become no doubters. Senior had no shortage of hustle over the weeks events, understood game situations, and put himself on the map in Ontario. He is currently uncommitted for 2015.

Miles Gordon, OF, Great Lake Canadians, 2015

Maybe the most upside of anyone on this list. Gordon, the 6-foot-0, 165-pound center fielder who hits from the left side, showed why he is a favorite of many college recruiters. Will likely be a top of the order type guy, Gordon plays with natural instincts, and understands the game. Good rhythm and timing at the plate. Will hit for average and use the whole field. Gordon understands what he needs to do with the bat to be successful and help his team win. Oozes athleticism, 6.6 sixty, will be a solid center-fielder and top of the order bat for which ever college program can steal him. Currently uncommitted, 2015 grad.

Tristan Pompey, OF, Toronto Mets, 2015

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound, switch hitting 2015 grad came to play this past week showing he can compete with the best in Canada. Pompey has a good approach at the plate, was rarely fooled and able to put the ball in play. Pompey played all three outfield positions but projects as a center fielder. Ran a 6.7 60. Room for added strength gains. Once he fills out will be a gap to gap hitter with occasional power. Actions are easy and fluid, smart on the bases with good jumps, base stealing threat. Solid defender with athletic actions in the outfield. At the plate Pompey showed the ability to go the other way and stay back on off-speed pitches, very toolsy player with a high upside.

the future

Cooper Davis, OF, Ontario Blue Jays, 2017

This past week was a coming out party for Davis. On scout day, the 5-foot-10, 160-pound outfielder led the pack with his 6.45 sixty time on the Rogers Centre turf. He showed the ability to make hard contact to all fields during his batting practice rounds and his arm strength showed enough carry with good actions to man centerfield. During game action Davis was your prototype lead-off man. He was able to work at-bats, make consistent contact, and was a threat to steal every time he was on. In the field Davis made two back-to-back plays running down a ball in the gap that looked like automatic extra bases and showing a great read going back on a line drive over his head. Davis is a definite game changer with his speed, and possesses the confidence in his abilities that one needs to be successful in this game. High ceiling for the 2017 grad.
