Team Ontario Future Games Spotlight: Spencer Marcus, OF/RHP
July 29, 2015
By Dylan Hefflinger
Ontario Editor in Chief/ Scout
On July 30th through August 1st, PBR Ontario will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 to represent Ontario at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis at Grand Park.
Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

Team Ontario Future Games Spotlight: Spencer Marcus, OF/RHP
Name: Spencer Marcus
Position: OF/RHP
Class: 2018
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 165 pounds
High School: Ursuline College “The Pines” Chatham Ontario
Summer Team(s): Great Lake Canadians
Past Showcase/In-Game Performances:
Scouting Report: 5-foot-10, 155-pound 2018 grad that showed a lot of athleticism on the day. Top time of the day from home to first at 4.29 and ran a flat 5.00 in the 40-yard dash. Moved well defensively in the outfield, lower half and feet work. Fielded ball cleanly out front and arm path was easy with some life at 80 mph. At the plate, showed some bat speed for a 2018 grad with an exit velocity of 82 mph. Loads up nicely on backside, hands are ready to hit. Small leg kick to stride, stays balanced throughout swing and was able to get the head out and make solid contact. With continued reps and development, Marcus looks to be headed down the right path.
Thoughts on being selected to play in PBR's Future Games and representing the great province of Ontario: "Excited and feel fortunate to be selected for this event."
How has PBR helped as far as recruiting and exposure: "Still early but I know my name has been circulating around the province more with this exposure, including this event. My initial showcase results circulated through twitter and exposure was evident then."
Athletic awards or academic accolades that you have received (All-State teams, Preseason all-state teams, league honors, honor roll, etc): "2013 I was selected for the “Fergie Jenkins Award” in Chatham Kent as the top ball player at all levels before moving on to AAA ball. I was recruited by “Great Lake Canadians” out of London Ontario shortly after. Started with them for the 2015 season after 1 year with the AAA team “Western Counties Wolverines” for 2014. Went from Playing 3rd base and Pitching to playing OF and pitching for GLC. With GLC I was quickly put into 3rd and 4th batter for the season. I have also tried out for the T12 tournament in Toronto for this fall, waiting for results on a 2nd tryout call back expected shortly.
I have also competed in Track and Field and been successful in long Jump and Triple Jump, breaking the record in Triple Jump in my Grade 8 year (Chatham Kent). I expect to return to the field in my Grade 10 year."
2015 Statistics: "GLC have not shared any stats for this season with the players. I know my batting average is around 500, I have had 2 HR in tournament play. I would be guessing on my hits and remaining stats."
What other sports do you play, describe (positions, years varsity, achievements, stats): "I also play AAA Hockey. I am entering my OHL draft year this fall. I am on a watch list for the draft being one of the top 3 players for the “Chatham Cyclones”. This is my 7th year with the AAA team. We play in the Alliance League in Ontario. I play RW (Forward) and was top in points for my team last season.
GPA/ACT/SAT: "I just finished my Grad 9 year and finished the year with a 83% average in the advanced level. Not sure what the GPA translation would be. I have not wrote my SAT yet but plant to."
Fun Fact (Anything unique about yourself): "My parents never played sports so I am trying to make a new mark for them. They are excited with my abilities and competitiveness. They have allowed me to excel and support everything I do."
