Team Ontario Future Games Spotlight: Hayden Malenfant, RHP

By Dylan Hefflinger
Ontario Editor in Chief/ Scout

On July 30th through August 1st, PBR Ontario will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 to represent Ontario at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis at Grand Park.

Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 145 pounds

Scouting Report: 6-foot, 140-pound athletic righty with long legs and arms. Good lean pitchers frame that will fill out in time. Arm action is loose and easy with some arm speed to it. Works from a low-¾ arm slot with natural run and sink. Good tempo to delivery with hip turn on leg kick. Gets good direction back to the plate. Threw fastball for strikes sitting between 78-80 mph. Curveball showed good two-plane break and rotation at 63-64 mph. Changeup was natural, slowed arm down at times, makings of a quality changeup. Good looking 2017 prospect.

Thoughts on being selected to play in PBR's Future Games and representing Ontario:  "I am very excited to have the opportunity to represent Ontario and play in these games."

How has PBR helped as far as recruiting and exposure: "PBR has given me the chance to get my information into a system that schools and coaches have access to.  "

Athletic awards or academic accolades that you have received (All-State teams, Preseason all-state teams, league honors, honor roll, etc):  "In 2014 was lucky to be on the EOBA baseball team that won a gold medal at the Ontario Summer Games.  Runner up and named to the All-Tournament Team 2015 NABF World series in Knoxville."

What other sports do you play, describe (positions, years varsity, achievements, stats): "Recently have taken a liking to golf."
