background
Darren Shred, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound catcher for the Ontario Blue Jays and Canadian National Team, has made impressive strides from a year ago. Over that time he has turned himself into one of the best defensive catchers in the Country.
Shred is currently uncommitted and receiving interest from top DI, junior colleges, and NAIA programs.
scouting report
Shred has a plus arm and creates good carry through the bag. Hands show ability to receive and has a feel for the position. Leadership qualities are obvious as he is able to control the game and knows his responsibilities as a catcher.
At the plate, Shred has continued to improve his approach at the plate. He has fine tuned his swing and become more consistent and short to the ball. Shred can get long at times causing his bat to drag through the zone. Flashes power potential given his size and strength. Played a key role in the 16U Ontario Blue Jays getting back to the Mickey Mantle World Series.
Off the mound, Shred is an easy 86-88 with his fastball. Delivery is clean with no red flags. Projects much more with a few minor adjustments. Arm works and is quick, gets on top of hitters with late life. Slider is thrown with good tilt and bite, sits 72-73. Some like better off of mound.
