Scouting Report
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound first baseman has a well proportioned body with a sturdy frame. Currently shows signs of strength with room to add on and become more physical. Wide stance with hands up in a good position to hit, small load and stride to contact. Power potential is there with some lift and leverage to swing. Able to create good bat speed through the zone. Can get pull happy at times causing swing to get long. With simple approach, Richards will be a guy who has the chance to be a run producer type player at the college level.
Defensively, made the move to first base last year while still seeing limited time in left field. Moved well around the bag making the routine plays. Showed soft hands while being able to pick balls in the dirt, really played position well. Smart heads up runner on the base paths. Has right desire and work ethic. Does what it takes to get better. Will be strong right-handed bat at next level with proper adjustments and continued strength gains.
