Dallas Taylor, LHP, Fieldhouse Pirates, 2015
5-foot-11 165-pound southpaw Dallas Taylor from coach Matt Baird's Fieldhouse Pirates is someone you want to keep an eye on. Taylor throws from a 3/4 arm slot which creates some arm side run to his ball. Dallas has a clean delivery, separates on time, and lands online and flat which allows him to get extended. With a loose and easy arm action, it’s fair to say that Taylor will generate more velocity to his fastball, which currently sits 82-83.
Taylor’s best pitch right now is his curveball. He can spin it with tight downward rotation with depth. Taylor’s curveball could be a potential difference maker and be used as a pitch that finishes hitters off. Taylor threw the occasional changeup and maintained his arm speed when using it. Given his arm action and slot, this should be a pitch he can effectively use.
With easy actions and ability to command the baseball, Taylor fits the profile of a quality college pitcher who will only get better with added strength gains. This lefty should be heavily followed as he heads into his final year.
