Q and A with 2016 Vanderbilt Commit: Ty Duvall (Lebanon HS)

Ty Duvall, C, Lebanon HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Vanderbilt?

Duvall: I always liked Vanderbilt. Then I went to the camp this past weekend and knew this is where I wanted to go. The coaches made me feel comfortable. I felt I can grow there as a player and a student. I also feel I can win a National Championship there.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Duvall: West Virginia, Georgia. Once Vanderbilt came into the picture, I didn’t consider any others.

PBR:  Where did Vanderbilt first see you compete?

Duvall: In Ft Myers and the Perfect Game World Underclass Championships this past October.

PBR: You are only a SOPHOMORE, how important was it to make you college decision so early? Are you finished with the recruiting process?

Duvall: Vanderbilt was always my top choice, so when they made an offer that my family could afford, I didn’t need to keep looking. Yes, as far as I am concerned.

PBR: The SEC is a major baseball conference.  How much of a factor was playing in the SEC in your decision?

Duvall: Huge, because I wanted to play the best.

PBR: You were on pretty much every major program radar screen.  What were expectations about the recruiting process and what advice can you give future players as they go through their recruitment?

Duvall: I didn’t go into it with any expectations. I just tried to work and play as hard as I can. Figured the rest would take care of itself. My advice would be to work as hard as you can, because you never know when someone will see you.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Vanderbilt?

Duvall: My competitive nature. I want to win more than anything. I feel I will help put runs on the board as a hitter. I also will help my pitchers with my defense and shutting down the running game.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Duvall: My parents. They have given me everything to get to where I am. The Midland summer program, especially coach Carney and coach Hammock, have been great for me as well.
