Q and A with 2015 Easter Michigan Commit: Gary Clift (Brunswick HS)
September 29, 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Michigan?
Clift-It was the right fit for me. The coaching staff made me feel at home as soon as I walked on campus. I have an opportunity to get a great education there and I can compete for playing time my freshman year. They are going to give me a chance on the mound and in the outfield, which made the offer even more attractive.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Clift-Central Michigan, Bowling Green, and Ohio U
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Clift-Coach Van Ameyde and Coach Roof actually saw me back in January at the Michigan State prospect camp. EMU recently had their own prospect camp and I went to that last weekend.
PBR: What team did you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable moment?
Clift-I played for the 17U Demarini Midwest Pelicans. The most memorable moment was beating the East Cobb Astros at Belmont University in the Music City Classic tournament.
PBR: What were you expectations about the recruiting process?
Clift-That it was going to be a learning experience for me. I knew it was going to be stressful but I didn't realize all the emotions I would feel while going through it. It was a rollercoaster ride.
PBR: What were your stats at Brunswick last spring?
Hitting- .373 avg, 28 hits, 7 2bs, 1 3b, 1 HR, .533 SLG, .955 OPS
Pitching- 29 innings , 26Ks, 2.41 ERA, 1-1 win loss record, 2 saves
PBR: Who was the toughest pitcher that you faced?
Clift-I would have to say Chris Machamer. He played on the Midwest Pelicans with me this past summer. I faced him in the regular season when we played Massillon and he was nasty.
