JUPITER, FL – The first day of Jupiter saw lots of stellar performances throughout the PBR 21-state coverage area. Here is a brain-dump from what I saw on Thursday, which included the Midland Redskins, Chandler World, Chicago Scouts Association, Evoshield Canes, Team Evoshield, Syracuse Sports Zone, Marucci Elite, Texas Sun Devils and bits and pieces of several other teams.
RHP Ashe Russell (Cathedral HS, IN) drew arguably the biggest crowd of the day at Marlins Field 6 when the 6-foot-4, 195-pounder started the game for the Evoshield Canes. His fastball topped at 94 several times, sitting comfortably in the 91-92 range. He also spotted his low-80s slider for consistent strikes, including a few in the first inning that touched 83 mph. Russell’s performance only solidified his status as one of the top right-handed draft prospects in the 2015 class.
Although Russell headlined Thursday’s performances, many other players put forth impressive showings Thursday. A state-by-state look:
