Inside the Recruitment: '15 INF Chandler Dippman commits to Wooster

Chandler Dippman, INF, St. Johns Jesuit, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Wooster?

Dippman:  Wooster has had a great baseball tradition.  Coach Pettorini has over 1,100 wins in his career.  Coach Craddock was my first Wooster baseball contact and he was very enthusiastic about the program

I really liked the fact that Wooster has a 90% freshman retention rate and 70% 4 year graduation rate and has excellent relationship with the Cleveland Clinic.  My field of interest is in the medical field.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Dippman:  Ohio Wesleyan, Adrian, Findlay, Northwood, Heidelberg, and Toledo

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Dippman:  Coach Craddock saw me in the summer and at the Napoleon Legion Fall All Star game at Adrian College.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Dippman:  I expect to get bigger and stronger with the opportunity to be a 2 way player, but most importantly learn as much as I can from the excellent coaching staff.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Wooster baseball?

Dippman:  I have a very good baseball IQ and at 6’3” 180 have a projectable body to get bigger and stronger.  I have good hands and a left hand bat that hits to all fields

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Dippman:  Last summer I played for the Whitehouse Legion (31-14) and played with and against a lot of great talent.  We won a few tournaments and had the opportunity to hit in either the 2, 3 or 5 hole in the lineup.

Although I am 17, this summer I will play for the Michigan Jets (U18), who have a great pedigree.  Last year one rating group ranked them 1st in the state of Michigan.  They won over 40 games.  The coach is an excellent recruiter who gets players from all around the country even South America.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season?

Dippman: I am hitting .357 with a 486 OBP and 500 slugging percentage.  On the mound I am 5-2 with an ERA of 2.85 and a batting average against of .255.  Lost a tough one 2-0 against Conner Curlis on a couple miscues. To date I have thrown almost 40% of the team’s innings so I bounce back quickly.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have ever faced?

Dippman: Colin Kaucher hit me well this year
