Division II State Semifinal: No. 6 Jonathan Alder vs NDCL

Tanner Gaerke vs NDCL

COLUMBUS, OH – Jonathan Alder uses a three run fourth innings to defeat Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin 3-1 despite being outhit 10-4.

In the fourth, senior Scott Peters led the inning off with a single. The Pioneers were helped by an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Cody Rankin.

NDCL made a nice play to get the lead runner on a sacrifice bunt attempt to get the first out of the inning.

Senior Zach Ary singled up the middle to score Rankin and the runners advanced on a throwing error.

Senior Casey Graber came up with the big hit, a two-run single to left to put the Pioneers on top 3-1. 

The three runs were enough for Alder's junior hurler Tanner Gaerke (pictured right) who pitched around 10 hits and a walk to allow just one run (0 ER) while striking out five.

NDCL left nine men on base with the second, fifth and sixth innings, leaving two on in each of the innings.

  • Tanner Gaerke, went the distance allowing one run (0 ER) on ten hits and one walk while striking out five.
  • Casey Graber, had a huge two-out, two-run single.
  • Ryan Proud, went 4-for-4 with four singles.
  • Ryan Falls (pictured right), the junior went four inning allowing three runs (0 ER) on three hits and four walks while striking out six.
