Countdown to Signing Day: Ohio State's 2013 Recruiting Class
November 9, 2012
With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Earlier, we reviewed the recruiting classes from Akron, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Dayton, Kent State, and Miami University. Now, we move on to The Ohio State University.
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
Coach Beals continues to build his program and put his footprint down in Columbus with another strong in-state class.
Undoubtedly, the Buckeye class is highlighted by Piketon left-handed pitcher Zach Farmer, who is considered one of the top five players in the 2013 class. Farmer had an up and down summer, but should he arrive on campus, he will undoubtedly be given the chance to make an immediate impact.
In addition to Farmer, the Buckeyes also added pitchers from within the state borders with Franklin right-handed pitcher Travis Lakins and Brunswick two-way prospect Kyle Michalik. Both right-handed arms presently show mid to high 80's fastball with above average secondary pitches.
In time, the Buckeyes biggest commitment may have come from Minster two-way product Adam Niemeyer, who’s stock was on the rise this spring until an injury shut him down for the summer. The big right-handed pitcher has an upper 80’s fastball, excellent off-speed pitches, and the makeup to be an impact player at the next level. He has excelled as a three sport athlete at Minster High School, who has won the past Division IV State Championships.
Offensively, the Buckeyes added local talent Ronnie Dawson, a left-handed power bat from Licking Heights who will likely play first base and DH. In addition, the Buckeyes secured a commitment from JP Sorma, an intriguing infield prospect from Independence HS out of Cleveland with plenty of raw skills.
