Countdown to Signing Day: Dayton's 2013 Recruiting Class
November 6, 2012
With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Earlier, we reviewed the recruiting classes from Akron, Bowling Green, and Cincinnati and now we move on to the University of Dayton.
UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON
The Flyers have put together one of the largest classes in the state with seven recruits hailing from inside the state's borders. And, even more impressive, they have done so with their former recruiting coordinator Todd Linklater leaving to join Rich Maloney at Ball State in the middle of the summer.
The Flyer class started rolling early in the summer with the commitment of Pickerington North catcher Matt Poland, one of the top catchers in the Class of 2013.
Dublin Jerome right-handed pitcher Jason Johnson (pictured right) figures to be the top arm in the Flyer class. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound righty is work horse that has effective movement to all of his pitches. Other arms include Mount Vernon right-handed pitcher Eric Ashbrook, who saw his stock go up and down this summer, and Elder right-handed pitcher Joseph Ramstetter, who has a live arm and enough athleticism that might lead to two-way opportunities.
Summer teammates Justin Wampler, a versatile, dirt bag type from Moeller, and Brad Burkhart, an outfielder with 6.6 speed from La Salle, five the Flyers two athletic position players. Wampler figures to play multiple positions while Burkhart will play the outfield and potentially see some time on the mound. Their latest commitment came from Tippecanoe's Carter Langdon, an intriguing 6-foot-4, 170-pound two-way prospect that likely projects as a corner infielder at the next level.
