With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.
Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Spring Team Preview: Sherwood Fairview Apaches
Team Name: Sherwood Fairview Apaches
Head Coach: Andy Singer
Division: III
2015 Record: 16-10
Conference Record: Green Meadows Conference, 6-1
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 8/4
2016 Team Strengths:
- Starting pitching
- Leadership/Experience
- Speed
- Defense
- Desire to succeed
2016 Team Weaknesses:
- Eliminating mental mistakes
- Allowing free bases
- Capitalizing on missed opportunities
Coach Outlook: We have a few holes to fill from last year’s team but the incoming grades are going to push the upperclassmen to perform at the optimum level. We have a group of athletes that love the game and the school and will be competitive every day they walk onto the field. The potential is there to be successful and we hope they reach the level we expect.
Top Returning Players:
- Kody King, RHP, 6'2” 200, SR, will be a four year starter, 7-2 record, 72 K, .343 BA, 1 HR, 21 BB
- Luke Breininger, C, JR, 6'0" 175, R/R, very good arm and great footwork, .346 BA, 2 3B, will be a cornerstone for the team this season.
- Matthew Kozumpluk, C/INF, SR, 6'2" 160, R/R, .322 BA, great hands and footwork in the infield
- Justin Smith, P/1B, JR, 6'6" 195, R/R
- Kobe Baker, CF, JR, 5'9" 150, R/R, one of the fastest outfielders we have had at Fairview, great glove, very aggressive, not afraid to lay out, will run down fly balls with ease
- Alex Jackson, LF, JR, 5'9" 175, R/R, quick outfielder with many qualities you like to see in a player both offensively and defensively
- Wyatt Puffinberger, SS, SR, 6'2" 180, R/R, great range and a good arm from shortstop
- Nathan Puffinberger, P/OF, JR, 6'1" 160, R/R
- Riley Cooper, P/1B, SR, 6'3" 210, R/R, has great control of his pitches, not overpowering but can throw strikes to allow the defense to make plays
- Austin Meyer, OF/INF, JR. 5'8" 140, R/R, great utility player
- Bailey Cine, INF/OF, JR, 5'10" 155, R/R
- Jakob Schoenauer, INF/OF, SR, 6'1" 160, R/R, great competitor
Top Underclassmen:
- Ian Groves, C, 2018, smooth swing, great knowledge of the game
- Hunter Bostater, C, 2019, passion for the game, hard nosed, desire to learn and excel
