Webster Schroeder 7 - Gates-Chili 2

After giving up hits to two of the first three batters of the game, Schroeder starter Nick Lawlor shut the door on the Spartans allowing just two hits the rest of the way in a 4-hit complete game win.  The Webster defense was solid highlighted by a terrific diving play to his right by senior 1B Mike Denimarck, starting a 3-6-3 double play to erase a 4th inning lead-off walk.

The Warriors would struck first with a 3-run third inning including RBI singles from Shane Marshall and Kory Whittum.  Webster would tack on 4 more in the 5th cruising to the 7-2 victory.  Shane Marshall finished 3 for 3, with 2 steals and an RBI for Webster.

Gates-Chili starter, senior, Mike Donafrio fell victim to a second inning littered with soft hits that the Spartans would not recover from.  Senior Nate Chase led off with a slowly hit ball down the 3rd baseline that hit the bag, followed by a S. Marshall bouncer in the SS hole in which Casey Guary fielded but did not have a play.  Whittum then tapped a bouncer just out of Donafrio’s reach to beat out an infield hit.  Senior catcher Justin Tynon hit a slow roller to third resulting in an error allowing him to reach, after which outfielder Brett Segala hit a bloop single to right off the end of the bat driving in the 4th run for the Warriors. 

Webster extended their winning streak to 4 and improved to 5-1 on the season.  They square off against cross-town rival Webster Thomas (4-1) on Friday at Basket Rd in a highly anticipated matchup.  Titans will start junior LHP Bren Smith (Canisius), and the Warriors send out senior righty Nate Chase (NCCC).
