Webster Schroeder 3 - Victor 1

Saturday the Warriors squared off against the defending State Champion Blue Devils in a divisional matchup at Basket Rd. Park.  The Warriors came into the game with an 8-2 overall record good for second place in the Class AA division behind the McQuaid Knights.  Victor, having lost nearly all of it’s starters from last seasons magical run, looks to retool for the future with many players getting their first crack at the varsity level.

Schroeder Senior Nate Chase carried the Warriors on both sides of the ball as they improved to 9-2 beating the Knights by a final score of 3-1.  Chase was effective keeping Victor off balance all afternoon, he was extremely efficient throwing just 67 pitches over 7 innings.  He had a shutout working before having a bit of trouble in the 7th, but was able to settle down for the complete game victory.  Chase finished with 7 IP,  4 H, 2 BB, and 4 K.

Victor’s Tanner Brill would put in some nice relief work, inheriting a bases loaded 1 out situation in the bottom of the 2nd.  Brill worked out of the jam and was effective down the stretch limiting the Warriors scoring opportunities by pounding the strike zone and keeping the ball down.

It was Chase’s 3rd inning two-out lead-off double, after which he would go on to score, that would prove to be the eventual game winning run.  With two men on, senior Brett Segala ripped a two-run double into the left field corner to put the Warriors up 3-0 at the time.

Both teams are away on Monday with Webster facing Greece Athena and Victor at Gates-Chili.
