Scott Blewett goes in the 2nd round (No. 56 overall) to the Kansas City Royals

It was probably a gut wrenching night for the 6-foot-6 225 pound Baldwinsville NY, RHP. All of Scott Blewett's hard work and talent were left in the hands of MLB GM's and Scouting Director's last night. When the dust all settled at 11:25 pm on 6/5/14 the Kansas City Royals picked Blewett with their 2nd round pick, No. 56 overall in the country.
Regardless of the hype Blewett had going into the draft this is still one heck of an honor and should be taken with a great deal of pride from Blewett and his family. I know from past experience the MLB draft is a complete crap shoot and one of the hardest professional draft's to predict because of the different teams mentalities and organizational needs. Blewett before the draft had been predicted as high as a mid first round pick, but he missed two starts as a precautionary due to some lingering shoulder soreness. He returned to action throwing two innings in the quarterfinals of section 3 and looked back to form. His fastball topped 95 mph but quickly faded to 89-91 which has been the story on him all along. If he signs and gets into the Royals organization that arm strength should maintain better once he gets acclimated to pro ball conditions.
Scouting Report On Scott Blewett
Blewett stands 6-foot-6, 225 pounds with a strong, athletic body. His legs are solidly built, but his upper body shows room for projection. Blewett can pump the fastball at 93-95 mph before he settles in at 87-90. He works well downhill using his leverage to his advantage with a smooth, clean delivery. Blewett works quickly and efficiently, setting most hitters up with his fastball, and putting them away with his 74-77 mph curveball. His curveball has a ton of spin and sharp downward action that is a next-level pitch. He needs to develop a better changeup and will now that he is either headed to the KC Royals, or headed to St. Johns. He has a physical, mature look about him that plays well in Professional Baseball.
