Pro Report: Catching up with former Horseheads HS star Dylan Manwaring
March 28, 2014
Name: Dylan Manwaring
High School: Horsheads HS (2013 graduate)
College Commitment: Wake Forest
MLB Organization: Atlanta Braves (9th round draft pick 2013)
Position: 3B
PBR New York sat down with former Horseheads HS star Dylan Manwaring for a question and answer session.
PBR: How did you prepare for your first full season in the Atlanta Braves organization?
Manwaring: Going into my first off season my main goal was to get stronger. I spent my entire off season training hard at New York Sport and Fitness. Once January came I started working on baseball specifics daily.
PBR: What were the biggest adjustments you had to make from HS to the Professional level?
Manwaring: The biggest adjustment for me was getting used to playing every day. Professional baseball is a serious grind both mentally and physically and the demands placed on you are high level. I would say it has taken me some time to get acclimated to the grind, but I am starting to feel more comfortable every day.
PBR: What does a normal day for you consist of in spring training?
Manwaring: My first spring training has gone very well. We are in the last few days of camp and I have enjoyed every minute. I have been swinging the bat well and mentally I feel prepared, so I am really anxious for my first full season in Professional ball with the Braves organization. We start every morning at 6:30 am and grab some breakfast. I then head to the cages for some early swings, or with a coach for early work depending on what is placed on the board in the clubhouse. We do team fundamentals every day, team batting practice, and also have team meetings about different aspects of the game. We have lunch around noon and then play a full game around 1:00 pm. The next day we do it all over again.
PBR: How do you keep yourself busy after you leave the ballpark?
Manwaring: I am absolutely exhausted after I leave the ballpark, so normally I take a nap and then grab some dinner. I hang out with some of the guys and then get ready for another day. I am just living my dream!
“Dylan is coming along very well. He came to camp in great physical shape, and we are very excited to watch his progress” said Bruce Manno, Atlanta Braves Minor League Farm Director.
