Scouting Report On McDonnell
McDonnell uses a quick-clean transfer behind the plate, solid arm strength from a mid 3/4-slot at 75 mph. He needs to improve his footwork which move slow and heavy. His pop time was 2.25-2.36. At the plate his setup is wide, weight shifted back, stride forward on the pitch. His bat is fairly level through the zone, path is short, extension through contact. Exit velocity off a tee was 75.
Analysis:
At 5-foot-10, 147-pounds there is no question McDonnell needs to focus on weight training and overall body strength to become the next-level player he wants to be. His footwork is an area he must address this winter, if he does look for his pop time to lower considerably. Every time we see him he looks a little better with his arm, and at the plate. We are excited to watch him develop this winter and spring. He expect to see him Feb. 15th at our Preseason All-State Mega event in Oswego, NY.
