Scouting Report on Gerringer
Gerringer stands 5-foot-10 150-pounds with plenty of room to add some weight. On the mound he uses a quick tempo, keeps his hands high, and uses straight shoulder alignment. He throws from a low ¾ slot generating natural arm side sink and tail, his fastball was consistently around 80-82 mph and his curveball had nice 11/5 shape with an early hump at 65 mph. From the infield he shows plus actions and balance getting around the baseball. He fields the ball in the middle of his stance, funnels to his belt with an average transfer but clean. At the plate his weight is slightly shifted back with a balanced approach. His bat path stays level through the hitting plane and he uses long extension with a strong high finish. His exit velocity was 82 mph.
Analysis:
Don’t let Gerringer’s thin frame fool you, in both of his PBR outings including our Top Prospect Games he located his fastball on both sides of the plate while fooling hitters with his off speed. Solid in the field and average at the plate, I definitely see him competing on the mound at the next level. With a little instruction and weight training he could help the right program come next year.
