Mahopac 8 - Carmel 0

In a longstanding rivalry game, John Reda threw a two-hitter in Mahopac’s 8-0 win over visiting Carmel on Wednesday. The senior right-hander allowed two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out eight on 107 pitches (67 strikes). He loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with one out, but shortstop Brendan White made a sparkling play on a sharp grounder up the middle that ricocheted off of the second base bag for an inning-ending double play.

The Indians (4-0) jumped on Carmel starter Shane O’Neil quickly. CJ Sager led off the game with a double, eventually scoring on Greg Cavaliere’s RBI double. Reda scored on Louie Nardella’s RBI groundout to make it 2-0, and Mahopac kept at it with three more runs in the second. Joe Fichera hit an RBI double, Sager drove in another with a single and Sager eventually scored on an error.

Right-hander Anthony Rosaforte entered for the Rams (2-3) to begin the third, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts over three innings. Cavaliere singled and scored on Chris Melnik’s double in the fifth and Sager and Reda added an RBI apiece in the sixth to help Mahopac pull away. Six different players had an RBI for the Indians.
