The Prep Baseball Report staff has finished their reports from Oct. 26th in Setauket NY. Here is an in-depth look at the infielders / OF that attended our Last Chance Showcase.
+ Connor Picascio, OF, Sachem East, NY (2016)
Picascio stands 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with a lean frame. From the OF he charges the ball hard, moves well evidenced by his 4.19 home to first time, fields in front of his left leg, clean exchange, throws from a high-3/4 slot, 77-79 mph arm strength. At the plate his setup is relaxed, short stride, back load on the pitch. Hands stay inside the ball, 77 mph exit velocity off a tee, with a short path. Barrel is slightly inclined through the zone, some extension out in front with a high finish.
+ Robert Maglara, 1B/OF, Marlboro HS, NJ (2017)
Maglara stands 5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a projectable frame. At first he received the ball with ease, had good footwork around the bag. Projects in the OF showing a strong arm potential from the loose 2017 graduate. At the plate there's a lot to like, exit velocity was 80 mph showing power potential, balanced approach and through his swing, short path to the ball, level through the zone, extension out in front, finish is shoulder high. He ran a 4.6 to home to first.
+ Jonathan Warasila, 1B/OF, Patchogue-Medford HS, NY (2015)
Warasila stands 5-foot-10, 180-pounds with an athletic, strong lower half. From 1B during the showcase he looked relaxed, received smooth, has a solid corner infield arm in the upper 70's, ran a 4.5 home to first time which is average for the position. Projects in RF or the corner at the next level. At the plate he shows strong hands with an 84 mph exit velocity off a tee, uses a back load on the pitch, small knee lift and stride. Short path to the ball, level path, great extension, shoulder height finish.
+ Michael Volpe, OF, Rocky Point HS, NY (2015)
Volpe stands 5-foot-6, 150-pounds with a smaller build. From the OF he charges the ball hard, stays behind it, has a choppy back arm action, throws from an over-the-top arm action, 68 mph arm strength. At the plate he has a smooth left handed swing. Back loads on the pitch, small stride, barrel is slightly inclined through the zone, rolls over on his front stride leg some, has nice long extension out in front, high finish. Exit velocity was 78 mph.
+ James McDonald, 1B/OF, Mattituck HS, NY (2017)
McDonald stands 5-foot-8, 165-pounds with a smaller build. From the field he works to stay behind the ball, some he fields outside his body. Throws from a mid-3/4 slot, 68 mph arm strength. From the plate his setup is balanced, hands high. On the pitch he uses a high leg lift, small stride. Short path to the ball, barrel works slightly uphill, long extension out in front, 80 mph exit velocity off a tee. Shows signs of a big bat potential.
+ Patrick Wallace, MIF, Eastport South Manor, NY (2016)
Wallace stands 5-foot-9, 160-pounds with an athletic build. From the infield he shows smooth body control and actions fielding the ball. Gets through the ball, clean transfer, throws from a high-3/4 slot, arm strength was 76 mph across the field. At the plate he starts with his knees pointed inward, shoulder length apart. On the pitch uses a knee lift and stride, back load for timing. Hands power inside the ball, short path, uphill path, shoulder height finish, rolls some on his stride foot. He ran a 5.03 home to first time. Exit velocity off a tee was 80 mph.
+ Jared Wright, OF, Marlboro HS NJ (2017)
Wright stands 5-foot-8, 130-pounds with a smaller built frame. From the OF he fields the ball out in front, quick exchange, long back arm action, throws from a high-3/4 slot, arm strength 78 mph. At the plate his weight is shifted back hands even with head. On the pitch hands drop, small stride for timing. Quick short path to the ball, barrel stays level through the zone, extension out in front of the plate, shoulder height finish. He ran a 4.75 home to first time. Exit velocity off a tee was 70 mph.
+ Luke Ricciardi, 3B, Malboro HS, NJ (2017)
Ricciardi stands 6-foot-0, 155-pounds with a frame that will hold more weight, tall and lean. From the corner he stays behind the ball, glove and head down, funnels to his hip, clean exchange, long back arm action, throws from a high-3/4 slot, arm strength at 63 mph, moves through his target after release. At the plate his setup is balanced. On the pitch he loads back, small knee lift, stride for timing. Hands stay inside the ball, short path, slightly uphill path, long extension out in front, high finish. His exit velocity was 76 mph.
+ Nicholas Lamari, RHP, Fordham Prep HS, NY (2017)
Lamari stands 5-foot-8, 160-pounds with smaller athletic build. From the infield he uses plus actions, smooth to the ball, glove down quick funnel to belt, clean exchange, long arm action. Throws from a mid-3/4 slot at 69 mph across the field. At the plate his setup is balanced, relaxed, and athletic. Back load on the pitch, small stride, hands stay inside the ball, short path, barrel stays level through the zone. Some extension out in front with a shoulder height finish.
